Greetings from Fiji ? “Bula Vinaka”
I am writing from Fiji after three months of preparing for my upcoming wedding. I left Mongolia in March for the purpose of visiting my girlfriend Alissa Kennedy at the YWAM base in Brisbane, Australia. Unfortunately, due to visa issues I was unable to visit Australia. I was blessed however with a visit from Alissa to Fiji over the Easter holidays for 2 weeks. During this time, we honored my parents with a visit to my home village in Vanua Levu, Fiji. I officially proposed to Alissa on April 9th, to which she replied “ I would be honored”. Lots of wedding preparations have taken place the last two months. The most important part has not letting the wedding plans distract us from growing in our relationship together, doing devotions together, and praying about future plans etc… During my stay in Fiji, I have also taken the opportunity to be part of a home church and help with their Youth programs. I found a great need for youth to be championed and encouraged. I also did some speaking regarding my ministry in Mongolia to local church groups. Alissa moved to Fiji two weeks ago so my time is spent praying, building foundations for marriage and doing premarital programs.
WEDDING PREPARATIONS
Our wedding day will be two weeks from today on July 7th, 2012. We have decided to hold our celebrations in Lautoka Fiji, so that our friends and family can easily visit from all over.
Alissa’s parents and best friend will be joining us from the USA for ten days. My family will travel from all over Fiji and New Zealand to join the celebration. YWAM is hosting a new base opening the weekend before the wedding so we are excited to also host guests from our YWAM family as well. We will be having a small ceremony in a local Fijian “bure” (hut) located at Anchorage Beach resort.
My mentor, Pastor Mike, will be the officiant and we are honored to have several pastors in attendance. Our family is hosting a traditional Fijian “tevutevu” (homecoming celebration) before our reception to introduce Alissa’s family into my culture. Our reception will be at a local hall and we are so thankful for the support of family, church, and our YWAM community in helping us cater and entertain at this event. We couldn’t do this wedding without their blessings.
The items we still have left to consider in the next few weeks include:
? Funds for wedding rings
? Wedding suit (we have given a down payment only)
? Coordinating transportation (renting a vehicle for the week of the wedding)
? Getting my Fijian drivers license completed
? Funds for honeymoon
? Signing up for marriage license
? Completing our vows
? Preparing for out of town guests (coordinating housing, transportation and food)
PRAYER POINTS
In preparing for the future we have been daily in prayer seeking God’s wisdom. The following includes our current prayer points:
? General health
? Rent for the month of July (God has blessed me with a two bedroom apartment during this time in Fiji)
? Ticket from Fiji returning to Mongolia (leaving on August 8)
? Mongolian visas

피지에서 문안드립니다.
다가오는 결혼을 석달동안 준비하면서, 피지에서 이편지를 전합니다. 3월에 몽골을 떠나 저와 결혼할 자매 Alissa Kennedy를 방문코자 호주 브리즈번을 가고자 하였으나 비자관계로 호주를 방문할수 없었습니다. 하지만 Alissa가 부활절 휴가를 내어 2주간 피지를 방문할 수 있었습니다.
이 기간동안 우리는 고향의 부모님을 찾아뵈었고, 4월 9일 저는 Alissa에게 정식으로 프로포즈를 하였는데 Alissa는 “제가 영광이네요“라는 말로 답해주었습니다. 여러 가지 결혼준비 사항들이 지난 2주간동안 진행이 되고 있지만 무엇보다 중요한 것은 결혼준비로 인해 우리의 관계가 더 깊어지고, 함께 더욱 헌신이 깊어지며, 앞날의 계획을 두고 기도하는 일이 흩트러지지 않는 것보다 더 중요한 일은 없다고 생각하고 노력하고 있습니다.
피지에 머무르는 동안 고향교회의 식구들과 함께 지내며 청소년 프로그램을 도울 소중한 기회를 가졌는데, 참으로 젊은이들이 힘을 얻고 세움을 입는 일이 소중함을 느꼈습니다. 저의 몽골에서의 사역에 관해 몇 차례 설교할 기회도 가졌습니다.
Alissa는 두주전에 피지로 건너와서 함께 기도하며 결혼 준비와 결혼에 필요한 사전 프로그램 등을 점검하며 보내고 있습니다. _?xml_:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />
결혼 준비
결혼은 두주 후인 7월 7일입니다. 우리는 피지의 Lautoka에서 결혼식을 가집니다. 친구들과 가족들이 도처에서 쉽게 올수 있도록 말입니다. Alissa의 부모님과 절친들도 미국에서 건너와 열흘동안 함께할 것입니다. 저의 가족들은 피지와 뉴질랜드 도처에서 합류할 것입니다. 예수전도단(YWAM)에서는 결혼 직전 주말동안 베이스를 열어 손님을 맞아주기로 했습니다. 얼마나 감사한지요. 앵커리지 해안 휴양지에 있는 오두막(bure)에서 조촐한 결혼식을 가질 겁니다.
저의 멘토인 마이크 목사님이 주례를 서 주시고, 영광스럽게도 몇분 목사님들도 참석하기로 하셨습니다. 우리가족은 전통 피지 식의 홈커밍 잔치를 준비하고 있습니다. 그리고 나서 우리는 Alissa의 가족을 맞이하여 우리 피지의 문화를 소개할 예정입니다.
환영리셉션을 위해 가족과 교회와 현지 예수전도단(YWAM)이 힘을 모아 손님을 접대하고 즐거운 잔치가 되도록 도와주심은 크나큰 축복이 아닐 수 없습니다.
